FAQ

How long is the drive from Prague?

About 2.5 hours each way, roughly 170 km south of Prague. We usually leave early to make the most of the day and beat the afternoon crowds. There's a comfortable rest stop about halfway if you'd like a coffee or a break — just say the word.

Is there an entrance fee for the castle?

The castle courtyards and gardens are free to walk through. If you'd like to go inside — the historic interiors, the remarkable Baroque theatre, or up the castle tower for the best view over the town — there's a separate ticket, usually around €8–13 per person depending on what you choose. Your driver can point you to the ticket office and suggest which tour is worth it. You can see the current tours and prices on the castle's official website.

Where do we have lunch?

Český Krumlov is full of great places, and you're free to pick whatever catches your eye. A few local favourites:

- Krčma v Šatlavské — a medieval tavern with meats grilled over an open fire. Great for atmosphere and hearty Czech food. See on Google Maps.

- Hospoda Na Louži — a cosy family-run pub near the main square, serving classic Czech dishes at fair prices. See on Google Maps.

- Nonna Gina — homemade pasta and wood-fired pizza, if you'd rather skip the dumplings. See on Google Maps.

Lunch isn't included in the price and usually runs €10–20 per person. Want us to help you book a table? Just ask.

Is Český Krumlov good for kids?

Yes — kids usually love it. The winding streets feel like a fairy-tale, the castle has a real moat (with bears!), and there's plenty of space to run around. The cobblestones can be tricky for strollers, so a baby carrier works better for little ones. Note that our car isn't fitted with child seats — if your child needs one, you're welcome to bring your own and we'll help install it.

How much time do we spend in the town?

Around 4–5 hours on the ground, plus the drive there and back — a full day, usually 10 to 12 hours door to door. That's enough to see the castle, wander the old town, have a relaxed lunch, and still not feel rushed. Want a shorter or longer day? We'll adjust it to you.

What's the best time to visit?

Mornings and late afternoons are magical — the light is beautiful and the day-trippers from the big bus tours haven't arrived (or have already left). Summer is busiest; spring and early autumn are quieter and just as lovely. We plan the timing to give you the calmest version of the town.

Can we add another stop on the way?

Absolutely. The route south passes close to a few worthwhile detours — České Budějovice (home of the original Budweiser), Hluboká Castle, or a countryside brewery. Adding a stop is no problem and doesn't change the fixed price, as long as it fits the day. Just let us know in advance.
